Trendy design hotel in the heart of Verbier
W Verbier

With the first fresh snow falling heavily in the alps this week and the slopes opening on Friday 11th of November in Verbier, it seems like a perfect time to tell you about the fabulous W Verbier. This urban-chic design hotel in the heart of Verbier is located next to Médran ski station. You can literally roll out of bed and be first in line for the gondolas in the morning! Ideal for keen skiers as it is a ski-in/ski-out hotel. I’ve been lucky enough to stay here three times and each time I feel like I’m being transported to a different world. A place you would stumble across somewhere in downtown New York City or London, not in the Swiss alps…
With a young and trendy clientèle, the W hotel is more about lifestyle and design than anything else. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the signature W Living Room, the perfect place to relax after skiing. Personally I would rename it the chill-out lounge. Everything here is made to ensure you de-stress fully: comfy sofas, faux-fur pillows, dim lighting, cool music with a resident DJ, and a stylish terrace.

Rooms come in a wide range of sizes and configurations. They go from cozy rooms offering a very decent 34 m2 of living space to the E-Wow suite over 184 m2. The rooms are all decorated with a red accent colour throughout, using a mix of local materials such as wood and stone, creating a cross between trendy design and Swiss-chalet style. They also feature a bio-ethanol fireplace. The beds are extremely comfortable, with high-quality linens and the bathrooms are spacious with a large bathtub and a walk-in shower. Sadly, the towels in the bathroom don’t rate very highly on my personal “soft & fluffy” towel index… All rooms are equipped with a coffee machine, wifi and the W’s signature mix bar that replaces the mini bar, putting at the guests’ disposal a cool cocktail shaker and a selection of ingredients to mix your own cocktails. And what better place to enjoy your cocktail than on your own private balcony?
If you really want to splash out then book the E-Wow Suite: 184 m2 over two floors all to yourself, with a large private balcony overlooking the valley and the alpine peaks beyond. Little luxuries in this enormous suite include a revolving king-sized bed - so you can choose to wake up admiring the alps, or facing the TV screen - a bath tub for two, a private sauna, two lounges, one complete with its own bar and dining area, all decorated with flair and style. You can easily throw your own private party here!
As to be expected from a hotel of this standard, the W Verbier has a whole range of facilities including a stylishly decorated spa, with an indoor/outdoor pool, steam rooms, saunas, a large whirlpool, a modern gym, a yoga studio and lots of treatments if you are looking to be pampered or need a deep-tissue massage after a hard day's skiing. A number of restaurants are also available on site, including a sushi bar with a unique décor and a tapas bar. The staff are all young, trendy and dynamic, reflecting the overall feel of this design hotel.

You can indulge in a cocktail or order some food. No frills, just classics: cheeseburger, club sandwich or goat's cheese salad and some tasty desserts to follow. For regulars, they offer an "epicurean showcase" where you can leave your personal whisky, cognac or Armagnac bottle to indulge in at leisure when you visit! If you manage to peel yourself off one of the comfy sofas, you can loll around on the coolest balcony, complete with plush, leather benches and two swinging pods to unwind in.
