The Victoria-Jungfrau spa

A classy and elegant destination spa

This is definitely a destination spa where guests can check in for a few days or more to enjoy all the amazing facilities and treatments it has on offer. This spa is simply huge with facilities spreading across 5500m2; these include a sauna complex, steam baths, a number of relaxation areas, massage options, beauty treatments, a gym and the standout feature has to be the pool area. Tennis courts are also available outdoors. The hotel even has a separate wing with direct access to the spa for guests who have booked a special well-being programme.

As a keen swimmer, I particularly enjoyed the pool. I can safely say it is the most elegant indoor pool I have ever swum in. The whole pool area, including the pool itself, is decorated with beautiful white mosaic tiles, trimmed with gold and black graphic lines, giving it a very classy edge. The bonus for me, was the fact that the pool itself is 20 metres long and hence, perfect for doing laps. The whole area is so refined, that I felt I had to swim, or rather try and glide, as quietly and gracefully as possible through the water so as not to disturb the very sophisticated atmosphere of this spa. The pool is flanked by two very inviting hot tubs. The whole area is light, airy, and benefits from lots of natural light. Always a big plus with me…

The spa includes a Spa Nescens and a Sensai Select Spa. The first offers the Nescens’ better-ageing range of programmes, osteopathy, physiotherapy, nutrition and coaching, body treatments, facials and cosmeucital procedures. The second, the Sensai Spa, offers treatments based on traditional Japanese beauty techniques and focuses more on face and body.

I chose to have the Silk Bliss facial in the Sensai spa. The decor in this Japanese-style spa area is super refined, with a colour scheme of cream and peach soft hues. The facial, like all the Sensai treatments, is based on traditional Japanese beauty techniques. My therapist was incredibly soft-spoken and gave me a very relaxing facial. The 60-minute treatment started with a gentle cleanse and then a soft peel, and after the obligatory extraction, was followed by a soothing facial massage. I left with my skin feeling gloriously smooth and supple and my complexion revived.

A unique feature of the Victoria-Jungfrau hotel is that it also offers a private spa area that guests can book for extra privacy. It includes a steam room, sauna, a relaxation room and a treatment room that can accommodate two. All in all, this was a very enjoyable and memorable spa experience.

Practical information

The spa offers a wide range of treatments. A 60-minute massage starts at Chf 180.- and a 60-minute facial is Chf 160.- The spa also offers 4-, 7- or 14-day better ageing programme by Nescens. These are highly personalised programmes, that may include personal training, weight-loss and anti-ageing treatments.

ps: I would have loved to include photos of the pool, but for privacy reasons I was not allowed to photograph the pool during my visit.
