Victoria-Jungrau Grand Hotel&Spa

From grand ballrooms to Bollywood stars, true old-fashioned elegance nestled in the alps
Oh, and you're probably wondering, what was surprise number 3: the spa, but to find out about that you need to watch this space!

And for those of us who cannot afford a suite, the rooms are nice, spacious and very classical, if somewhat a little disappointing compared to the stunning public spaces. They are quite simple, with some heavy, old-fashioned furniture, but on the upside the bedding is super fluffy and cosy. The bathrooms could do with being updated and I'm really sorry to say, the towels only score a 4 on my "soft&fluffy" towel index.

And as I always say, it's the small touches that count: housekeeping very graciously leaves a delicious Swiss mini-pastry on your bed during the turndown service. A touch of sugar to help you drift off and enjoy sweet dreams...
For the many wealthy Indian tourists in search of romance and idyllic landscapes who have made Switzerland a favourite destination, the Yash Chopra suite strives to make them feel a little bit at home. This elegantly decorated Bollywood-style suite designed in honour of the great Indian film director Yash Chopra, offers a beautiful space to relax and reminisce about home and Bollywood's greatest hits. Posters of Shahrukh Khan throughout the room serve to remind guests that the famous actor once stayed here. A dark red silk bedspread, leather sofas and the odd elephant statue will transport you back to India for a moment.
With hundreds of Bollywood hits having been filmed in Switzerland, it's no wonder that the Victoria-Jungfrau Grand Hotel chose to dedicate a whole suite to the famous Indian film director, Yash Chopra. This is just one of the many surprises this grand, elegant and classy hotel has in store for its discerning guests.
Everything in this building is grand, from the beautiful marble floors and chandeliers to the absolutely stunning Versailles ballroom (this is definitely surprise number two). This ballroom comes complete with its original parquets dating back 150 years, a beautiful, ornately decorated ceiling and heavy crystal chandeliers. The hotel hosts a number of balls here every year. It also has a number of fine restaurants, including an Italian restaurant and the recently refurbished, bright and sunny La Terrasse restaurant.
Outside the hotel - which has front-row seats on the Jungfrau rising in the distance - is a vast public lawn that is transformed into the local landing strip for paragliders. While I was there a constant flutter of colorful parachutes came in to land, making it all look so easy, that even I was tempted!

Nestled in the beautiful Bernese highlands, caught between the two stunning lakes of Brienz and Thun, the Victoria-Jungfrau is one of the oldest hotels in Interlaken. In fact, it is composed of two hotels joined together. The entrance, which is a long, modern, art-déco style lobby, is built on the former road that separated the two original buildings and reunites them gracefully.
