Le Spa, Kempinski Hotel Geneva

Switzerland

A perfect urban escape...

I was kindly invited by the Kempinski to discover their beautiful spa on a very grey November day. It was a perfect escape: everything in this spa will quickly make you forget how depressing Geneva can be at this time of the year. The spa is very warm and spacious and as I stepped into the spa zone, I was immediately reminded of the Danish concept of Hygge, the atmosphere here is all about coziness, warmth and well-being.

Just to reel off a few statistics, the spa offers: 1400m2 dedicated to relaxation and well-being; a 20 meter indoor pool heated to 28 degrees centigrade with access to a pretty patio in the summer months; 1 VIP suite with a private hammam and terrace; a modern, well-equipped gym with 23 Technogym machines; a range of gym classes including aqua-biking; 6 therapists providing beauty treatments using products from Valmont cosmetics; and 1 beautiful relaxation room.

As a keen swimmer, I must say, I was quite taken by the lovely, large swimming-pool that is located under a pretty flood-lit glass atrium, making it a bright and welcoming place even on a cold, November day. It is also one of the very few pools in Geneva that offers aqua-biking lessons.

After touring the spa, I headed for the changing room where I must admit I was thrilled to change into the softest bathrobe ever! Unlike some other spas I’ve visited, the bathrobes here have not been over-washed and over-tumble dried. They are high-quality, super-soft and comfortable, providing you with the ultimate spa experience. These are the little luxuries I like to enjoy when visiting a five-star spa.

On this visit, I opted for the Restorer Facial and wasn’t at all disappointed. There are a lot of little details that particularly struck me about the treatment room, which I particularly appreciated. The room wasn’t too dark and it was beautifully lit with candles and perfumed with a soft vanilla scent. I was invited to slip under a large, soft, fleece blanket for my treatment, which I was particularly grateful for; no toes sticking out and getting cold during this treatment. After carefully cleaning my skin, the therapist spent a good part of the treatment gently massaging my face and neck, with expert swift, circle-like movements.  Whilst she applied an amazing collagen mask and let it set, she completed her treatment with a very enjoyable hand and arm massage. This was an incredibly relaxing and enjoyable experience. I could feel the collagen mask working wonders long after departing the spa, leaving my skin feeling plumped up and super refreshed.

Whilst I didn’t have time on this visit to try out the spa’s marocMaroc oriental treatments, the receptionist did take some time to describe these incredible hammam body radiance rituals. The 2-hour “Hammam Escape” treatment includes a complete hammam ritual followed by a ceremonial body massage using products from the marocMaroc luxury range. These traditional Moroccan beauty products are free of silicone and parabens and use natural textures; ingredients used include argan and sesame oil, orange peel and honey extracts. This is one treatment I would love to try, hopefully, on my next spa visit. It would make a lovely winter gift too.
